Alexandra Muscaro, M.A.
About Alexandra
Alexandra (Alex) Muscaro is a San Francisco–based dramaturg, writer, and arts-in-health practitioner with over a decade of experience in the performing arts. A proud graduate of Marymount Manhattan College (B.A. Theatre Arts, Magna Cum Laude) and the University of Florida (M.A. in Arts in Medicine), Alex’s career began in New York City, where she worked both on and off stage while still completing her undergraduate studies.
Her early years included performances at cabaret venues such as 54 Below and Don’t Tell Mama, as well as Off-Broadway theaters like AMAS. She also completed internships with Tony Award-winning producers and established herself as a published theatre writer. Over time, she became a resident dramaturg for theatre companies, festivals, and even a television series, offering consultation, script editing, and development support for dozens of new works, over 20 of which have gone on to final performance. Today, Alex runs her own consulting practice, Purple Pen Dramaturgy, and serves as resident dramaturg for Mixing It Up Productions.
When the COVID-19 pandemic paused the New York theatre community, Alex redirected her creative energy into the field of Arts in Medicine. Her graduate capstone project, Find Your Voice: Exploring the Story of You, is a writing workshop rooted in narrative healing and self-expression. She has facilitated this program in nonprofit and hospital settings, and is now expanding its reach into Bay Area community events and social wellness groups.
She also served as the journal prompt writer for The Nudge, where she created accessible, evidence-informed content promoting mindfulness and emotional well-being. She continues to bridge the worlds of arts, education, and healing, always grounded in her core belief that storytelling is a tool for connection, transformation, and care.
